O.A.R.S. presents Martin's Boat – a 23-minute film by Pete McBride honoring the late Martin Litton - www.martinsboat.com

Preeminent conservationist David Brower called him his conscience: in the 1950’s when the Bureau of Reclamation proposed two dams in the Grand Canyon—one at Marble Canyon and the other at Bridge Canyon—the late Martin Litton made sure the Sierra Club didn't acquiesce. Martin believed the best way for people to understand how important it was to preserve the Grand Canyon was to have them experience this secret world from the river, but not in just any boat. Martin pioneered whitewater dories on the Colorado River in the 1960’s and started a proud tradition of naming the boats after wild places that had been lost or compromised by the hand of man. Now, some 50 years later, America’s open-air cathedral faces continued threats from development and mining and it’s up to all of us to ensure the crown jewel of our National Park system is protected now and for future generations. Martin’s Boat is a film that honors the legacy of Martin Litton and follows the newest boat in the Grand Canyon Dories fleet, the Marble Canyon, on its maiden voyage down the legendary Colorado River through the grandest canyon on Earth.

<![CDATA[THE ART OF WILD - A Short Documentary]]>
THE ART OF WILD reconnects us to the earth through the lens of five experiential artists from across British Columbia, Canada. Looking intimately at lifestyle commitment and the world we live in, the artists climb routes on the southern end of Vancouver Island, dive into the north Pacific Ocean waves of Tofino, ride the Kooetnay Rockies of Revelstoke and bike the lost landscapes of Atlin from a tiny off-grid cabin tucked away in the most northern corner of the province.
This short documentary film reminds us of our humble place in this vast universe, allowing us to simply enjoy the beauty of nature and the exploration, contemplation and freedom that it evokes.

<![CDATA[Jumbo Wild: The Movement (Preview Featurette)]]>

In this preview to the upcoming feature film, we travel deep into the Purcell Mountains of British Columbia where the land is wild and backcountry skiing is a way of life. For the Ktunaxa Nation, it is an area known as Qat’muk, the sacred home of the grizzly bear spirit. Conservation group Wildsight echoes its importance as part of a critical wildlife corridor, one of only two remaining areas in North America where grizzly bears can freely roam between Canada and the United States. For decades, First Nations, conservationists and backcountry skiers have fought the proposed Jumbo Glacier Resort. What more will it take to keep Jumbo wild for good? Some records are just meant to be broken. Mayan Smith-Gobat and Libby Sauter just knew that the women`s speed record for the ascent of The Nose on El Capitan in Yosemite National Park, California was their`s for the taking. Crushing the old record and standing atop El Capitan at 5 hours 02 minutes after their first test run and 4 hours 43 minutes after the final attempt just a few days later, Mayan and Libby put their names in the books of the infamous route in the Yosemite National Park, California. <![CDATA[Douglas Tompkins: Wild Legacy]]>
Douglas Tompkins was a world-renowned adventurer, entrepreneur, and conservationist. Co-founder of The North Face and Esprit, Doug spent the first half of his life building successful, global brands, while simultaneously adventuring around the world, completing first descents of the world’s toughest rivers. In 1968 Doug embarked on a trip to Chile, driving with friends from California to the tip of Patagonia. Documented in the film Mountain of Storms, the trip solidified Doug’s place as rock climbing legend. In the early 1990s, Doug sold his part of Esprit and moved down to Chile to do conservation work full time with his wife, Kristine McDivitt Tompkins, the former CEO of Patagonia, Inc. Together, over the last 25 years, Doug and Kris have protected 2.2 million acres, more land than any other individuals. The foundations under the Tompkins Conservation umbrella, along with their partners, have created five national parks in Chile and Argentina and are in the process of creating five more. A Wild Legacy tells the story of Doug’s incredible life, his lasting impact on the wild landscapes of Patagonia, and Kris and the Tompkins Conservation team’s efforts to continue his audacious mission.
Doug was tragically killed in a kayaking accident on Lago General Carrera, north of Patagonia Park, on December 8th, 2015. Douglas Tompkins: A Wild Legacy was presented to audiences at the Telluride Mountain Film Festival on May 24th, 2016 during the festival’s tribute to Doug.
“If anything can save the world, I’d put my money on beauty” – Douglas Tompkins

<![CDATA[The Last Colonizer]]>
We recently traveled three days on horseback through Patagonia to tell the story of Gaucho Heraldo Riel for DJI World.

To be a gaucho means to be honest and kind to all living creatures. Now in his seventies, Heraldo Riel became a gaucho at the age of nine just like his father before him, and has stayed true to the spirit of his profession while in the midst of a rapidly changing world. This is a story about being connected to nature and oneself, set in the stunning landscape of Patagonia, Chile, made even more intensely beautiful through the meditation that solitude brings.

On February 6th, Ines Papert and Mayan Smith-Gobat summited Torres Central, in Torres del Paine National Park (Chile) via the extremely difficult east face. 25 years after the first ascent of this historic route, this was only the fifth known successful ascent of ‘Riders on the Storm.’ This region is famous for its unstable weather conditions, making it a very challenging place to climb.

‘Riders on the Storm’ was first climbed by Wolfgang Güllich, Kurt Albert, Bernd Arnold, Peter Dittrich and Norbert Bätz in January 1991 during 15 days of climbing over a five-week period. This stunning line on the sheer 1300m east face of Torres Central line went at 7c, A3. The climbing is very varied and demanding, ranging from delicate and runout face climbing to wide cracks and roofs, which were often entirely iced up.

<![CDATA[Fuera Salmoneras]]>

<![CDATA[FUTALEUFU - a river calling]]>
“FUTALEUFU” is a project for a short film that shines a light on the Futaleufú River and is set to be shot still in 2015. The project was conceived from the desire to share not only the FUTA’s wonders with the world – one of the planet’s capitals for rafting, kayaking and fly fishing – but also to expose the menace that the construction of a dam in the river’s area represent to its rapids and its local community.

This is a sensitive, contemplative film that makes us wonder how the death of a river can leave so many orphans around it. In a first person narrative, the river itself tells the story of its particular relationship to native characters from the community of Futaleufu – who, here - are able to establish a dialogue with the waters. Through poetry and factual narrative we want to show viewers that the Futaleufu isn’t just an ordinary river – and how this small Patagonian town relies on its resources and ancient wealth to survive.
