This is an international contest open to people from any country except individuals affiliated with Patagon Journal, including advisory board members and volunteers.
Patagon Journal wants to receive your best photos of Chilean or Argentine Patagonia in the following categories:
=Nature: wildlife; trees and plants; landscapes

Environment: environmental dilemmas

Travel & Culture: images that reflect the region's unique history, culture and heritage. Images that capture a sense of place, showing the spirit and essence of Patagonia.

Outdoor sports: people enjoying the great outdoors, such as fly fishing, climbing, trekking, biking, kayaking, and other diverse sports or activities.
Each participant can submit 2 photos in each category. Send the photos to This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it until January 31, 2013.  The participant must be the creator of the image.
Photos should be submitted as jpegs and resized to 1600 pixels on the longest side of the image, but the participant must have access to a high resolution version that is at least 8 megapixels. If your photo wins, you will be requested to submit the higher quality version for printing.
The participant should send their full name, email and phone number, title of the photo, and a brief description of each image in an email to This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it .
Before sending the photo files, each image should be renamed with the category and the photographer's last name. (nature, environment, travel, outdoors) Ex: outdoors_perez_2, if the photo is the second of two photos in the outdoors category.
Photos should not include the photographer's watermark.
Photos will be judged by Patagon Journal staff based on content, composition, and originality.  Digitally enhanced photos are acceptable as long as the final image is real and is not a composite of separately taken photos. 
We will choose a first and second place winner for each category. Additionally, we will choose an overall winner from the 4 first place category winners. 
1st and 2nd Place: All first and second place images will be featured in an upcoming edition of the magazine, will be printed for display in an exposition at Mall Sport in Santiago, Chile, in March 2013, and will receive a 1-year subscription to the magazine.
1st Place: The 4 first place winners will furthermore receive a gift certificate to the Patagonia stores in Santiago for $100.000 pesos Chileno (approx. $US 210). The certificate must be used within 6 months of winning the award. 
Grand Prize: The overall winner will also receive a 3-nights stay for two persons ($505.000 pesos Chilenos, equivalent to approx. $US 1050) at Puyuhuapi Lodge & Spa in Aysen, Patagonia. This award must be utilized within one year of winning the prize. 
We will notify winners by email. If we do not receive a response within one week, we will select the next best photos in succession until the prize is claimed. 
By submitting a photo, the contestant retains his/her copyright.
Contestants grant Patagon Journal a royalty-free, worldwide, perpetual, non-exclusive license to display, distribute, reproduce and create derivative works of their entries, in whole or in part, in any media now existing or subsequently developed, for any educational, promotional, publicity, exhibition, and all other standard Patagon Journal purposes. Any photograph reproduced will include a photographer credit as feasible. Patagon Journal will not be required to pay any additional consideration or seek any additional approval in connection with such uses.
All participating photos may also be published by other media outlets or organizations for the purpose of promoting or reporting on the Contest. 
Patagon Journal reserves the right to disqualify or reject photos for any reason, or cancel or terminate the Contest for any reason.
