Press release, Aug. 5 - The idea for Patagonia Avalancha en el Volcán was born with the goal of establishing downhill speed records from the summit of the volcanoes of the Araucanía region. Its most important site is the Villarrica volcano, also known as Ruka Pillán in the Mapuche language Mapudungun. One of the most active volcanoes on the planet, Villarrica volcano has more than 25000 visits every year.

This will be the seventh version of this event and the Ruka Pillán will again host this legendary competition, where the bravest and adventurous enjoy the adrenaline of a downhill freeride from the crater of the volcano. It is an international competition where the best riders, after ascending to the top, take a breath and contemplate a unique landscape; then launch themselves, one by one every minute. There is no prepared ski run, the snow is in its natural conditions. Each competitor chooses his path as they descend, and the winner is whomever does it in the shortest possible time from the crater to the cafeteria of the Pucón ski center.

The competition will be held between September 12 and 20, the exact date to be confirmed the week before the event depending on the climatic conditions.

For this version we have 100 spot open for skiers and snowboarders, both men and women, of which 20 will be for the category minii-avalanche (children between 12 and 17 years). The cost of registration is $80,000 pesos chilenos (approx.. $US123) and includes transportation to the ski center, mountain guides for the ascent, entry to all related activities such as parties and presentations, and discounts in a variety of Pucon stores supporting the event.

The day before the competition competitors will receive their kit at the Patagonia store in Pucón and then the opening ceremony will be held at the Hostal la Montaña which will be an opportunity to explain the conditions of the volcano and the route of descent.
