Gravsports - Last winter a 19-year old Austrian youth, David Lama, went to Patagonia to try to free the Compressor Route. The actions of his film team and their guides have caused an international furor. For those not in the know, the Compressor Route was the scene of a complete debacle when Cesare Maestri bolted (bad style) his way up a big face on Cerro Torre, an amazing mountain in Patagonia. Maestri first claimed to have climbed the mountain using "fair" means, but few believe him, so he went back and blasted it with bolts.

Wend Magazine - My teammates and I were lined up on a beach in Tierra del Fuego with 56 other athletes at the start of the Wenger Patagonian Expedition Race, one of the world’s hardest and most remote adventure races. I’d been physically and mentally gearing up for it since the minute I, along with two other YogaSlackers, was given the opportunity to join Team GearJunkie six months prior. It would be the race of my life.

This Is Chile.cl - Amid the beauty and peace of the Andes Range, the white landscape is much more than a pretty backdrop for the city of Santiago. Chile is without any doubt an ideal place to ski because of its geography, climate and first-rate infrastructure. You can find modern ski centers just a short distance from Santiago and, farther to the south, the longest run in Latin America.

The Alpinist - Nasty weather plagued climbers for much of Patagonia's 2009-10 season, forcing many teams to abandon new-routing plans. Some instead made notable repeats or solo ascents, and a few teams took advantage of short weather windows to establish new terrain on Aguja Poincenot, Aguja Guillaumet and Fitz Roy.

Planet Mountain.com - On 04 April 2010 a small German team comprised of Robert Jasper, Jörn Heller and mountain photogher Ralf Gantzhorn succeeded in climbing a new route up the virgin north face of the Monte Sarmiento, reaching it's west summit. Located in Patagonia's inhospitable Terra del Fuego, the peak is rarely ascended and some 30 expeditions have failed in the past, giving an indication as to the regions difficulties. In fact, prior to their ascent the team had to dig deep just to reach the base of the mountain proper: after having arrived at Ushuaia in March they spent 11 days sailing through the rough waters around Cape Horn and making their way up north to the Magellan Strait, to establish their base camp at Caleta Escandallo. Finding a way through the thick vegetation and the glacier proved highly complicated, and bad weather soon brought three attempts to an abrupt, premature end.

Freeskier - The rebuilding of homes and lives in coastal Chile is becoming more urgent as winter approaches. People taking a South American ski trip this winter can directly help families in Chile left devastated by the magnitude 8.8 earthquake and tsunami of Feb. 27.

Polar News Explorer - In Antarctica we achieved the first ascent, integral voyage and decrease by foot of the Plateau Herbert, and opened a new exit ramp between the plateau of the Antarctic Peninsula and the sea. This last achievement does not seem to be minor, considering that previous expeditions, even one of the British Navy during 2006, with great logistic unfolding, did not achieve to obtain this aim.

Angling Trade - Patagonia, the fishing and outdoor apparel manufacturer, launches its first-ever Fish e-Catalog – an online, interactive, 52-page flipbook. With a feel that’s more “magazine” than “catalog,” readers will be able to watch embedded videos, read unique Ambassador commentary, click on technical product information and provides avenues to purchase. The catalog will be distributed via e-mail and social media channels including Facebook, Twitter, blogs and certified Fish dealer websites. The user-controlled e-Catalog replaces the company’s traditional paper-based catalog this Spring, as it is easier to find and is a small step toward permanently eliminating a paper catalog for Patagonia’s Fishing line.

Outside Magazine - AT A TIME WHEN many people are worried about unemployment, along comes a movie that makes a convincing case for seeking it out. The feature-length travelogue 180° South, out this spring from director Chris Malloy and adventure clothier Patagonia, follows journeyman surfer and climber Jeff Johnson, 41, on a six-month sail from Mexico south to Chile by way of Rapa Nui (Easter Island). Inspired by a 1968 pilgrimage made by Patagonia founder Yvon Chouinard and the North Face founder Doug Tompkins, the film offers a simple point: Two weeks of vacation per year does not a life make.
