Established in 1994, La Posada de los Farios is located north of Coyhaique, Chile on a peaceful working cattle ranch overlooking the beautiful and remote Rio Cisnes (Swan River), one the finest trout fishing streams in Patagonia Chile. The fishing is primarily for wild and agressive resident Brown Trout, hence the name: Los Farios, "fario" being the Chilean name for Brown Trout.
 
The mountain scenery is spectacular and the fishing options abundant. The lodge itself is the original historic 60 year old ranch house, modified to comfortably handle a maximum of just 6 guests per week. We strive to maintain a relaxed "homey" atmosphere around the lodge, with delicious meals served family style, always complimented by fine Chilean wines, freshly baked bread and, fresh fruits and vegetables from our garden. Our jovial young chef Fernando Bravo has been with us for many seasons and is now considered among the very finest lodge chefs in Chile today.
 
During your fishing day an abundant picnic luncj is prepared streamside by your guide and a steaming woodfired hot tub awaits you at the end of each fishing day. A traditional patagonian style barbequed lamb "asado" is prepared over an open fire by local "gauchos" as a final farewell celebration.
 
Daily fishing options include wading or floating the spectacular Rio Cisnes, hidden lagunas, spring creek tributaries, horseback trips to our own Private Lake, another very productive and gorgeous lake just 20 minutes from the door of the lodge and, excursions to the coastal fjords for sea-run trout and salmon. Fishing begins at the doorstep and travel to all our fishing areas passes through some of the loveliest and most rugged country on earth.
 
Dry flys are used most often but, both nymph and streamer techniques may be employed when conditions dictate. It is not uncommon to see truly large Browns feeding on the surface. All fish are released.
 
Virtually all of the angling is done in the shadows of the spectacular Andean peaks that form the Argentine border. The beautiful Queulat National Park is just to the north.
 
Non-fishing guests are welcome and can enjoy activities such as horseback riding, river rafting, kayaking, hiking, mt. biking, birdwatching, excursions into nearby wilderness areas, or cultural visits to neighboring farms and villages.
 
The rural local people "campesinos" live a lifestyle that has long vanished from the North American continent and meeting them often turns out to be a visitor's most memorable Patagonia experience. Drinking the traditional "mate" tea with a local Patagonian gaucho is an experience one will never forget.
