On Sunday, October 30, regional, national and foreign athletes will converge once again in Puerto Guadal, in Chile's Aysen region, for another version of the "Tehuelche Challenge" triathlon organized by the local tourism association "AG de Turismo, Cultura y Artesanía." Held for only the second time, the competition includes a combination of kayaking, cycling and running amid gorgeous Patagonian scenery. 

 

The organizers state the event seeks to "promote the sport of triathlon, healthy living and knowledge of Puerto Guadal and its beautiful landscapes." In addition, "to make this activity an important, recognized competition, that prevails in time, and that attracts people from different parts of the region, the country and abroad to the locality, to strengthen the local economy."

 

All interested participants can register by Tuesday, October 25, in the individual and team categories, made up of 3 competitors (one per discipline and can be a mixed team of men and women).

 

There will be more than 28 kilometers (17.4 miles) in total, distributed approximately 4.5 kilometers (3 miles) in kayak; 10 kilometers (6 miles) in bicycle; 14 kilometers (8.7 miles) in running. The sections must be completed during the day, so each team and competitor will be responsible for managing the times of their participation. Likewise, the organization will define cut-off times for the race.

Competitors must attend a pre-race technical briefing at 5:00 p.m. on October 29 (in person), in addition to check-in on the same day.

 

Awards will be given for the first three places, by gender in the case of individual competitors and in the case of teams the first three positions.
